A trust can be set up for a number of reasons. Some people may choose to set up a trust for estate planning purposes while others may choose a trust for will writing and inheritance purposes. Some trusts are set up because the person is either too young to own and manage property and assets or is invalid and therefore cannot ensure the management of his assets.

The process of creating a trust can be made simple if you start by getting the terminologies right and understanding why you are setting up a trust. So, to start with the creation of a trust, you need to understand certain terminologies-the ‘settler’, the ‘trustee’ and the beneficiary.

The settler is the person/ organization responsible for creating the agreement i.e. the trust

The trustee is the person who is responsible for disbursing the assets

The beneficiary is the one to who’s intended benefit the trust was created.

Once you have identified the settler, trustee and beneficiary the next step would be to draft the ‘trust document’. In fact, a trust is formed by simply writing up a trust document outlining the intentions behind the formation of a trust by the settler for example it may involve deciding about how the person’s assets will be distributed and managed after his death. In the event where the trust was formed for inheritance purposes, the trust document very often may take the form of the person’s will.

After having drafted the conditions and intentions of the trust, the next thing is to have it signed by the settler and the trustee.

The next step towards the formation of a trust is to constitute it as a legal entity and this can only be done if it meets the following criteria as stipulated by the UK law:

-Clear evidence that the settler wishes to form a trust i.e. he was not forced into doing so.

-Identification of the object of the trust, i.e. the assets which is supposed to be transferred

-The identification of the person who is intended to benefit from the trust

In the case where the trust was formed as part of a will, all the documents should be signed by the settler and two witnesses although another person may sign on the settler’s behalf if he is incapable of doing so.

In order for a trust to be viable, the settler should be mentally capable at the time of setting up. The above steps have been written only to give you an overall idea about how to set up a trust and it is highly recommended to seek professional legal advice before actually setting up a trust.

Have you decided to set up your own website? First of all let me congratulate you for making one of the best decisions of your life. Choosing to have your own website-whether it is for your business or for your own personal blogging needs-owning a website has a number of advantages. To begin with you can communicate with your customers and organization members and increase the visibility of your business. It is also a brilliant way of raising funds through donations or through paid membership on your website. Irrespective of the reason why you chose to have your own website, this guide will elaborate on the steps of how to set up a website.

-To begin with you need to determine the real reason of why you are setting up a website and whether it is the optimal decision, it is important for you to realize that having your own website can be costly and time consuming. If you have decided to have a website to communicate with your clients, is it the best choice you have at hand? What sections of a website is more appropriate for your business? A product catalog or photo section?

-Next you need to decide on a domain name-bear in mind that a domain name should be a name that is memorable, simple, obvious and as short as possible.

-The next step is to choose a web hosting provider. While choosing a web hosting provider, you need to consider factors such as the price of hosting, the quality of their technical support and overall quality of the service.

-Then you have to choose your website design. If you are setting up a blog, WordPress is the best option since it is a completely online system which allows you to set up professional looking websites/blogs without requiring any technical know-how.

-You should organize your website and start planning on the content. You are the one who knows best what you want the website to say about your business or what you want to blog about-based on the content that you want to see on your website, you can then choose a template that will best suit this purpose.

-Another optional feature is the use of plug-ins. Though they are not necessary, they are however highly recommended since they allow you to have significant additional features on your website for instance the Grunion Contact Form permits you to add a contact form so that people can contact you, while Slimstat plugin provides you detailed information on your visitors.

-The next phase is the testing phase. Once you have set up your website, although to your own eyes it may seem the best site around, other people may not share the same opinion. At this stage, you may want to have some of your friends to view your website and gather their opinion as far as their experience has been on your website. You should take into account any suggestion that they make, do not take it personally if they find your website ‘rubbish’

-Once you have made the required changes to your website, it is ready to go live. You can now pat yourself on the back for setting up your first website, you are now ready to sit back and relax as far the technical side of the website is concerned but the real challenge is yet to come- creating quality content that will help build up and retain traffic.

Many people set up their own business because they have been made redundant and want to continue in their line of work. Others want to work for themselves or have a great idea and have spotted a gap in the market.

If you are planning to set up your own business, there are some important things you should consider. Our guide will outline these.

What’s your business?

When you set up your own business the first thing you should do is write a business plan. Your business plan outlines important information about the goals and objectives of your company and will help you work out exactly what you need to do to make your business a success.

For example, your business plan should tackle issues such as:

What the business will do

Where the business will operate from

Whether the business will employ any staff

Where the money to fund the business will come from

How long it will take to turn a profit

How the business will get clients/customers

What skills will I need for my business to be a success?

Successful businesses are run by lots of different types of people with lots of different skills and qualities. If you are determined to make your business succeed, and are prepared to work long hours, then you have two of the main qualities needed for success. You will have to have commitment to your business and motivation to make it a success.

One key quality shared by many successful business people is determination. They do not give up at the first sign of trouble and they persist until they are successful.

Looking after the finances

Your business finances will make or break your venture. Unless you manage your cash flow, profit and turnover carefully you may run out of money and your business will fold. So, it is vital that you ensure your finances are kept in good order.

Employing a good accountant is a good first step as they can help you look after your business accounts and tax affairs. They will also help you with your payroll if you are planning to employ staff.

If you are not good with numbers it is vital that you have someone on your team who is. Otherwise, your business could end as quickly as it began.

The Nintendo Wii has revolutionised home video gaming. With motion sensor controls and a huge range of games designed to be played by families and large groups, over 84 million units had been shipped by the end of 2010.

With revolutionary software such as the Wii Fit, driving games such as Mario Kart and a range of sports games including boxing and golf, the Wii has become the family-friendly console of choice. And, setting up your new Wii console is hassle free and straightforward.

Our guide explains how to set up your Wii.

Basic set up of your Wii

Firstly, you should place the Wii console where you want it to go. It can be placed either horizontally or vertically and comes with a stand if you want to place it in the vertical position. You lower the Wii console into the stand until you hear the brackets click into place.

You should then connect the power cord between the Wii console and the wall socket. The DC adaptor plugs into the Wii near the bottom of the back of the console.

Connecting the sensor to your Wii

Once you have situated your Wii console and have plugged it in, you need to connect the Wii sensor. This is the part of the unit that monitors the movement from the remote controllers.

Firstly, connect the sensor bar to the red port above and to the left of the adaptor port on the back of the Wii console.

Then, you need to mount the sensor bar either at the base or on top of your television set. Most people mount the senor on the top of their TV and you can use sticky pads to ensure that is affixed securely.

Finishing the set-up of your Wii console

Once you have set up your console and the sensor, it is time to finish the connection of the Wii to your television.

You should plug the Wii end of the audio/video output cables into the Wii console, and then into your television. You can peel back the wires to give you the slack you need should you want to link the audio cables to different equipment – for example directly into a stereo system.

Once you have attached these cables, you should be ready to begin. Turn on the Wii console to ensure everything has been set up correctly. Bear in mind also that you may have to adjust your television channel to the proper output setting, or you may not see the video on the screen.

Keeping goldfish can be rewarding and great fun. And, it’s not nearly as complicated as you might think to set up your goldfish tank or aquarium. Our handy guide will help you set up a goldfish tank in your home.

What you will need to buy

The first thing you will need to do is decide how big and what type of goldfish tank you want in your home. You then need to find a reputable retailer to buy the items you need. These will include:

A goldfish tank

A tank stand

Filters and an air pump

Fluorescent lighting in the hood

Tubing and gravel

A thermometer

A reputable pet store or fish retailer will be able to help you ensure you have everything you need to set up your home aquarium.

Where to set up your goldfish tank

Placing your goldfish tank is a key factor to take into consideration. When deciding where you will situate your aquarium, take the following into account:

Power – You’ll need access to electricity sockets to plug in the items in your tank that need power (filter, lights etc)

Light – Avoid direct sunlight as this can produce drastic changes in water temperature and excess algae growth

Equipment – Make sure you have enough space around your fish tank to store additional equipment such as supplies, filters etc

Draughts – Make sure you avoid them if you can as your tank needs a stable temperature

Surface – Make sure you pick a surface that is completely level

Accessibility – Make sure your tank is somewhere you can get to it easily

Safety – Don’t place your tank near a through route in your home or where people will pass and knock it regularly

Water – Make sure it’s near a good supply of water or easy to get to

Final set up of your fish tank

Once you have decided where to locate your fish tank, you should wash the tank by hand or using a hose pipe. Remember not to use soap. Once you have done this, place the fish tank in its final location and then fill up the tank carefully, making sure that the tank is level. Measuring the water level from each corner is the way to do this.

You should then prepare your gravel by cleaning it repeatedly with water in a bucket until it runs clean. Once it is clean, you can add it to your fish tank to a level of around 3-4 inches. It helps to slope the gravel from the back to the front of the tank. This looks prettier and makes cleaning easier.

Then, fill up the tank to the very top. Not only does it take the water line above the rim of the tank but it also maximises the swimming room for your fish.

You may then want to add decorations and scenery as well as your filters and pumps. Once you have done all this, you’re then ready to move to the next stage – the fish.

Daniel Day-Lewis once again portrays a powerful role. The acting is extraordinary, with powerful performances that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This film is more than just a drama, it is a life venture, a quest to destroy those that care and believes in you.

The storyline captures you from the moment go. The main character Daniel, who started out his career as a silver miner, discovers some oil after an incident in the mine. This changes his entire life for he sets out to make his fortunes by mining for oil. He becomes ruthless, violent and scheming. Conning every person he comes across. Making promises that he never intended to keeping.

Daniel’s greediness turns him into a murderer. He tries to destroy the people who believe in him. Everywhere he goes he leaves a path of destruction. The story leaves you with sadness in your soul. To learn and feel the bitterness of one man, one that only sees himself as having it all and taking away from others.

The story runtime is long. It is worth every moment of it. There are times the story seems to drift a little off course, but it all fits in well together in the end.

Eli is another powerful character that is in Daniel’s face. Eli is a man of God. He tries to use his influence to soften Daniel and bless the mine. Daniel is violent and arrogant towards Eli. He shows no respect of the House of the Lord.

Eli witnessed something about Daniel and this forces him to come part of the church. In his soul he is still the same bitter man. He makes an absolute mockery of the church. The relationship between Eli and Daniel is like any other. Daniel treats him like rubbish, but still he comes back for more.

He ended up a lonely drunk. He disowns his adopted son who wanted to also go in the oil business for himself. His actions after that destroy him in more than one way.

This movie is an absolute must see. To see the lengths people are willing to go too just to make a fortune. Who they will walk over, who they will rob and who they will kill. Having no guild and feeling any compassion for those whose life he destroys. He is left bitter and hated by everyone that crosses his path.

If you are a business, celebrity, musical artist or have a brand that you want to promote, a Facebook fan page can be the perfect place to generate interest in you or your product.

A fan page can grow as big as possible and allows you to send messages to an unlimited group of people. So, here’s our guide to setting up a fan page on Facebook.

The basics of setting up a fan page

Firstly, head to Facebook and the ‘create a page’ section. You will see six categories in which you can set up your page including local business, brand or product and ‘entertainment’. Choose the one most relevant to you.

Once you have created your page, you should make sure that you complete the information page fully. Upload a photo or logo (it sometimes helps to have your website address on this picture; whilst it won’t be clickable people can still see where to go for more information).

Use the ‘info’ link on the left hand side of the page to edit information about you, your product or your company. For example, in your company overview, you can list links to pages on your website, your newsletter signup form, other social media, or whatever you want.

Make sure you post to your fan page regularly

When setting up a fan page on Facebook, it is important that you post regular content to the page. As with other social media, content and interaction with fans is crucial.

Posting something at least every day means that you will show up in the news feed of all your fans. You can post links, a blog or anything else that your fans would be interested in.

Whenever someone becomes a ‘fan’, comments on your post, shares your post or clicks the ‘like’ button it will show up in their news feed for all their friends to see. So, you can potentially reach thousands of new people every day.

Sending updates to your fans can also help you update people about new sales, events or products. Try not to overuse this – people don’t like being bombarded with messages – but used carefully this can really help you connect with your fans.

Promote your Facebook fan page

Once you have set up your Facebook fan page, it is important that you link to it from everywhere. Let people know that you are on Facebook in order that they follow your page. Put a link on other social media sites or include a link or Facebook logo in your newsletter of blog.

And, don’t be afraid to ask people to come to your pages. Send an e-mail to clients, customers or fans asking them to join your pages on Facebook.

Installing a wireless network in your home gives you and your family complete flexibility about where and how you access the internet in your home. A wireless network allows you to watch videos in your bedroom, chat with your friends in the kitchen or even shop from your own garden.

Our guide provides step by step instructions for setting up a wireless network in your home.

Getting started

In order to set up a wireless network in your home you will need:

A broadband internet connection – Shop around to find the best value broadband package for you taking into account speed, reliability and download limits

A wireless router – This is a device which sends information between the internet and your network. It means you can connect computer to your network using radio signals instead of wires. Again, shop around for a router which is fast and provides a strong signal

A wireless network adaptor – This is a device which connects your computer to a network. Most laptops and desktop PCs now have a network adaptor already installed (you can check by opening the ‘device manager’ in your PC and looking for a ‘wireless network adaptor) or you can buy a USB adaptor

Setting up your internet connection

Once you have all the correct equipment, you need to set up your internet connection as follows:

If your modem was not set up by your internet service provider, follow the instructions that came with your modem to connect it to the internet

If you are using a DSL line, connect your modem to a phone jack

If you are using cable, connect your modem to a cable jack

Setting up your wireless router

You should place your wireless router in a central location in order that each room in your house has a strong signal. Put it away from the walls and from metal objects, and off the floor. This will help you maximise the signal.

Making your wireless network secure

When you set up a wireless network the signal may go beyond your home allowing other people to use it to access the web. To avoid this, you should set up security on your network so only you and your family’s computers can access the internet using your signal. You can do this by:

Setting up a ‘security key’ for your network (you do this via the Control Panel and ‘network and sharing centre’ wizard)

Changing the default password and user name

Using a firewall – software or hardware that can protect your computer from hackers or malicious software

Adding computers to your wireless network

You can add all your family’ PCs and laptops to your home wireless network.

You do this by opening ‘connect to a network’ on each individual computer and clicking ‘connect to’. You then choose your network from the available list, enter your security key and connect.

Setting up a limited company can be a complicated process. So, it is important that you consider all the various aspects of setting up your own company before you begin.

Our guide explains how you register your limited company, what types of limited company there are and how you should appoint officers of your limited company.

Registering as a limited company

Before your business can begin operating as a limited company, it has to be registered with the Registrar of Companies at Companies House. This process is called ‘incorporation’.

In order to register as a limited company in the UK, you (or the agent acting for you) will need to send the following documents to Companies House:

Application form IN01 – this includes the company’s registered office, the names and addresses of its directors, type of articles, statement of capital and initial shareholdings

Memorandum of association – this confirms the subscribers’ intention to form and become members of a company. I n the case of a company limited by shares, the memorandum will also provide evidence of the members’ agreement to take at least one share each in the company

Articles of association – this shows how your company will be run. Every company formed under company law will have articles of association. The articles form a contract between the company and its members and they set out how the company makes decisions. Every company is required to have articles and they are legally binding on the company and all of its members

The company comes into existence only when the Registrar of Companies issues a certificate of incorporation.

What type of limited company do you want to be?

There are four main types of company:

Private company limited by shares – the liability of each member is limited to the amount unpaid on shares by them

Private company limited by guarantee – a company that does not have shares and its members are guarantors rather than shareholders. Members’ liability is limited to the amount they have agreed to contribute to the company’s assets if it is wound up

Private unlimited company – relatively rare, these companies have no limit on the members’ liability

Public limited company (plc) – a company that has share capital and limits the liability of each member to the amount unpaid on their shares. PLCs can raise money by selling shares on the stock market and must have a share capital of at least £50,000

Your company officers

When you set up a limited company you will have to decide which people are appointed to run it. You must have company directors (who have to prepare and deliver documents such as an annual return and accounts) and, if needed, a company secretary.

Private companies must have at least one director, one of whom must be an individual person (as opposed to another company). A private company is not required to have a company secretary but can choose to appoint one should they wish. Public limited companies must have at least two directors (one of whom must be an individual person) and a formally qualified company secretary.

Setting up a limited company

You can set up a limited company by completing the appropriate paperwork yourself. However, many companies employ the services of a specialist – an accountant, business specialist or tax advisor – to help them set up their limited company.

So, whether you are new to Apple products or just new to the iPad, our guide will help you set up your tablet and to get the most out of it.

Getting started

The first thing you should do with your iPad is to connect it to your main home computer and open iTunes. When iTunes launches you will be asked to activate your iPad and to register the device by agreeing to the terms and conditions.

iTunes serves as your iPad’s backup system. Starting with a clean slate is often advisable and you can choose to automatically sync photos, music, videos and applications. To ensure you get the best from your iPad, it is often better to customise your iPad preferences via iTunes rather than using the ‘automatic sync’ option.

Setting up your e-mail

The process for setting up your email on an iPad is similar to the email setup process for the iPhone and iPod Touch. You should select your e-mail program, enter your e-mail log-in details and then you are ready to go.

To create an email signature, you should select the ‘mail’ option within the ‘settings’ app. Scroll down and select ‘signature’.

Managing your iPad via iTunes

iTunes on your main home PC or Mac will serve as your iPad’s home base. Once you have set up your iPad as above, you can customize your iPad’s media content and configure your settings. You do this by selecting your iPad in iTunes (it is located under the ‘devices’ label in the left-hand menu bar).

You can then tab through the top navigation menu items (summary, info, apps, music etc) to change your settings for each individual type of content. Once you have changed all the settings to suit your preferences, click ‘Apply’ in the bottom right hand corner and the sync process will begin.

The tabs can be summarised as:

Summary – an overview of your iPad settings and the place to check for updates

Info – where you sync your contacts, calendars and e-mail accounts

Apps - where you manage your iPad apps. You can select the apps that you want to appear on your iPad from the left-hand menu and you can drag-and-drop the ticked apps to switch them from one iPad page to another

Music – you can sync your entire music library or selected playlists or artists

Movies – where you manage the movies that will be synced with your iPad. You can sync all your movies or just some of them

TV shows – where you manage the TV shows on your iPad (all unwatched episodes of your shows will automatically be synced unless you choose otherwise)

Podcasts, iTunes U and Books – where you manage the other content on your iPad

Photos – where you manage the photos and videos on your iPad (again, you can sync all or just selected photos)
